Grover a Blue
Merle Great Dane, around 1 1/2 years young. He
was found wandering a Cherokee Reservation in
Tulsa with a broken leg that had healed into a
condition called a radius corpus (due to the
curve in the bones from improper healing).
Grover was found by a wonderful Pediatrician,
who had him vetted, her vet however couldn't
fix the leg and after no response from other
people she contacted - called us and sent
Grover to Rescue.
At first
glance, we were not sure there was hope for
Grover. He was wild. He bucked like a
bronco. It was heartbreaking to even
consider that perhaps this time we would be
unable to rehabilitate, train and place
him in a forever home. However day two was
different. It was like the next
morning we woke to a whole new Dane... a
potty trained, calm, loving, hugging,
willing to learn pup that wanted nothing but
to please us. In just two short weeks
he had overcome a fear of cars, learned over
7 commands and is just one of the most
loveable gentle pups ever.
Now that we
knew he was place able, we knew we had to
find out where to get him help for this leg.
Grover bounces and plays like he has no clue
he has a problem. Though Grover is in pain
some times and whimpers some nights, you
couldn't tell by watching him smile and
play.
After
researching numerous options, we found out
that Grover's best bet for a healthy happy
productive life with a fixed limb would be
to go to the University of Missouri
Veterinary School. Grover underwent a 10-1/2
hour reconstructive surgery on December 7th
and got to come home to heal on the 10th.

Grover now
is going thru extensive after care with
daily vet visits which will soon turn into
weekly visits. He is doing
great, no sign (knock on wood ) that his
body will reject the metal inside him and we
pray it will stay that way. Also, all but
two of his staples (there were about 50 in
total) are out. He still has a bit of
seeping at the joints but every thing else
looks good and there is no swelling!

Special Thanks to all who have given so
Grover could have a great life! We still
have a long way to go, but he is worth
it, and the healing is begun.
