Saving the Great and Wonderful Danes!

Arkansas Great Dane Rescue started as part of a coalition of  several other Rescue programs in Arkansas.  Since February 2002, we had worked with these other groups fostering Danes.  The members of our organization felt they wanted to be a stronger force in saving the Great Danes and began work as a sub-group of Angel’s Run.

On January 1st, 2004, Arkansas Great Dane Rescue incorporated on it’s own, as a non-profit corporation.

We currently operate with a handful of volunteers sharing a united mission… Saving the Great and Wonderful Dane!

Due to limited resources, we give preference to pure-bred dogs in shelters (statewide in Arkansas and Memphis, Tennessee), then owner surrenders, and finally, Dane-mixes in shelters (Arkansas only).

In any owner-surrenders, we work with the owner to offer solutions to help them keep the dog.  If no resolution can be found, we then accept the dog into the program for foster/adoption.  Owner surrenders must be sponsored financially by the owner to cover any Veterinary care, maintenance expenses as well as nutrition costs.

Each year, AGDR takes in more and more dogs, in ages varying from 5 weeks to 5 years of age, and in varying degrees of health. I

The cost of feeding these gentle giants can be an enormous undertaking, especially since many in our program are emaciated.  Coupled with the costs of proper Veterinary care, our expenses are great.

You can help in so many ways… we are in constant need of numerous supplies, such as large wire crates, crib mattresses, fitted crib sheets, blankets, large chew toys, treats, and humane training manuals.  We also need office supplies, such as digital cameras, printers, and copiers.  Of course, monetary donations are always welcome and very much appreciated;  please send to:

Although we strongly believe the rescue effort is important,

unless we can convince people of the urgency of spaying or neutering their pets,

nothing we do can or will ever make a significant difference.
